The short version
Some links on this site may earn us a commission if you click through and make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. Our recommendations are not for sale: several of the services we recommend most strongly earn us nothing, and we say so on the relevant pages.
The longer version
The Household Employer is an independent publication, and affiliate commissions are how it sustains itself. Here’s exactly how that works:
Which links. Links beginning with /go/ (for example, /go/rocketlawyer/) are affiliate links. Every page containing them carries an affiliate notice at the top. Pages without /go/ links carry no notice because there’s nothing to disclose.
What “affiliate” means. If you click a /go/ link and then purchase from or sign up with that merchant, the merchant may pay us a commission — a percentage of the sale or a fixed amount per signup. You pay the same price either way; the commission comes out of the merchant’s margin, not your pocket.
Current status: placeholder links. As of September 2026, our /go/ links are plain redirects to each merchant’s homepage — they are not yet monetized and earn us nothing. When affiliate relationships go live, this page will be updated with the live terms before the links start earning, and every affected page will continue to carry its affiliate notice.
Verified programs we intend to use. We’ve verified the following publisher affiliate programs and their published terms (commissions are per the programs’ own terms pages, which control if anything here is outdated):
- Rocket Lawyer, LawDepot, LegalContracts — 30% commission on sales (legal-document services)
- Nolo — 15% baseline commission
- HomeWork Solutions — $55–75 per signup (household payroll service)
- NEXT Insurance, Hiscox — $25 flat fee per completed workers’ comp quote request
- Sittercity — per new paid family membership and new sitter registration (exact rates set post-application, not publicly disclosed)
- TransUnion SmartMove — 25% of completed transactions, 30-day cookie
What we don’t earn from. Care.com, UrbanSitter, Bambino, Wyndy, Jovie, Nanny Lane, Angi, TaskRabbit, traditional nanny agencies, au pair agencies, and background-check providers other than SmartMove have no verified publisher affiliate programs — when we recommend or discuss them, we earn nothing, and the relevant pages say so explicitly.
Recommendations are not for sale. Merchants cannot pay for placement, ranking, or favorable coverage. Commission rates do not influence our comparisons — which is verifiable: our highest-commission categories (legal documents at 30%) are recommended alongside free alternatives, and some of our most emphatic recommendations (run an independent background check, use a payroll service) earn us nothing at all.
FTC compliance. This disclosure, plus the per-page affiliate notices, constitute our compliance with the FTC’s endorsement guidelines: material connections are disclosed clearly, conspicuously, and close to the recommendation.
